Build

Installing the Fuel Pumps and the Front Frame Reinforcement Plates

Step 1

Note the differences between the left and right Front Frame Reinforcement Plates, as seen below:

Retrieve your Front Frame assembly from the previous stage. Press the three tabs of the Front Frame Reinforcement Plate (Left) into the matching slots (arrows below) at this location on the left side of the Front Frame, as shown.

This was a very tight fit on my model – I needed to gently tap the rear tab of this Plate (yellow arrow) into place with my hobby hammer:

Step 2

Press the slot of a Fuel Pump onto this tab of the Fuel Pump Bracket. Note the orientation of the rounded top of this Fuel Pump (yellow arrow below) in relation to the two mounting pins of the Bracket (red arrows below).

I chose to deviate from the written instructions a bit here. Instead of first mounting Front Frame Reinforcement Plate (Right) to the Front Frame then adding the Fuel Pumps, I built my entire Fuel Pump assembly first:

In the same orientation, press the second Fuel Pump onto the other tab of the Fuel Pump Bracket:

You may want to add a drop of super glue to the tabs to keep these Pumps in place and aligned correctly. We will soon be connecting hoses to them and they tended to move around a lot:

Step 3

Slide the four Short Tubes onto the split-Y pins of the Fittings, as shown.

As I have mentioned before, I recommend warming the ends of these hoses between your fingers or dipping them in some warm water. This will help soften the hose to allow it to slip on easier:

Step 4

Connect the free ends of the Short Tubes of one Fitting assembly to the upper pins of each Fuel Pump. In the same way, connect the free ends of the Short Tubes of the second Fitting assembly to the lower pins of each Fuel Pump.

Even with warming the hoses, I had a heck of a time sliding these Tubes onto the Fuel Pump pins. I found it helpful to scrape off the paint from the pins with a hobby knife:

Connect the free ends of the Long Tubes to the base pins of the two Fittings, as shown:

Step 5

Press the pins of the Fuel Pump Bracket into the matching holes of the Front Frame Reinforcement Plate (Right), as shown.

Note how the rounded ends of the Fuel Pumps (yellow arrows below) are facing the angled edge of the Reinforcement Plate here:

Step 6

Press the three tabs of the Front Frame Reinforcement Plate (Right) into the matching slots (arrows below) at this location on the right side of the Front Frame, as shown.

This Plate was just as tight to fit into place as the first one. Again, I used my hobby hammer to tap the tabs of this Plate fully into place:

Step 7

Slide the free end of the lower Long Tube into this nearby hole of the Front Frame, as shown.

Back in Stage 13, I mentioned how I inserted lengths of 22 Gauge Craft Wire inside the Spark Plug Cables to allow me to bend them and retain their shape. I did the same thing here with these Long Tubes. I also used a drop of super glue in the Front Frame holes to hold them down in there:

In the same way, slide the free end of the upper Long Tube into this second nearby hole of the Front Frame, as shown:

Thoughts

This was quite a tricky issue with the small hoses and tight fitting parts, but we made it through! In the end, I am happy with the way these Fuel Pumps and their Tubes turned out on my Miura. I chose to glue these hoses in place as we will nudge them a lot as we continue the build.
