Build
Mounting the Engine
Step 1
Retrieve your Engine assembly from Stage 23. Carefully turn it upside down and take note of these four posts on the bottom.
You may want to put your Engine on a protective surface to protect the paint on the Air Boxes:
Retrieve your Rear Frame assembly from the previous stage. Place the Rear Frame assembly over the Engine, aligning these holes to the posts mentioned earlier:
Being securing the Rear Frame to the Engine with two (2) Type A screws.
I recommend starting these two screws (and the next two) before tightening all four of them together. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:
Finish securing the Rear Frame to the Engine with two (2) Type B screws:
The Rear Drive Shafts/Wheel Hubs
NOTE: The Left Rear Drive Shaft is shorter in length than the Right Rear Drive Shaft, as seen here:
NOTE: In the same way, the two Wheel Hubs are not the same, note the differences here:
Step 2
Insert the longer D-shaped pin of the Left Rear Drive Shaft into this matching hole on the left side of the Gearbox/Transmission, as shown:
Fit the ‘tabs’ of the Left Rear Wheel Hub under this bar of the Left Suspension Arm, holding it in place as shown:
Secure the Left Rear Wheel Hub Plate to the Left Suspension Arm by fitting the Left Rear Wheel Hub Plate onto the Hub Plate, capturing the bar in between…
… and then secure this all together with one (1) Type A screw:
Rotate this Wheel Hub around to align the upper post (second picture below) with the matching hole in the Left Rear Upper Wishbone, at the same time capturing the free end of the Left Rear Drive Shaft in the center of the Wheel Hub, as shown:
Secure the top of the Wheel Hub to the Upper Wishbone with one (1) Type F screw:
Step 3
On the right side, we will do the same steps. Insert the longer D-shaped pin of the Right Rear Drive Shaft into this matching hole on the right side of the Gearbox/Transmission, mirroring the left side as shown:
Fit the ‘tabs’ of the Right Rear Wheel Hub under this bar of the Right Suspension Arm, then cover it with the Right Rear Wheel Hub Plate as before, like shown:
Secure these parts to the Right Rear Wheel Hub Plate with one (1) more Type A screw, as shown:
In the same way as before, rotate this Wheel Hub around to align this post with the matching hole in the Right Rear Upper Wishbone, at the same time capturing the free end of the Right Rear Drive Shaft in the center of the Wheel Hub, as shown:
Secure the top of the Wheel Hub to the Upper Wishbone with one (1) Type F screw:
Thoughts
Our Engine assembly has been installed and our rear suspension components are nearly complete. I am having a great time with this build!
